HARRACHOV
The village was founded in the 17th century and was known under name Dorfl. At the beginning of the 18th century it was renamed to Harrachsdorf after its Harrach family owners. The place is famous for its glass blowing tradition and local ore mines. Lately the tourist industry took over and Harrachov village became a prime tourist resort of the western side of Krkonose Mountains. It is internationally known for its annual ski jumping races.

 

 

FUNICULAR TRAIN
From Tanwald to Korenov (Harrachov) travels a unique funicular railway of Central Europe. It leads through a beautiful scenery of Krkonose and Jizerske mountains with numerous tunnels and viaducts. It is the steepest railway line in the Czech Republic. With the help of Abt's gear the train climbs the 235 m elevation on a short 7 km distance between towns Tanwald and Korenov.

 

 

GLASS BLOWING FACTORY AND MUSEUM
The factory and the mini brewery Novosad and Son, Harrachov, s.r.o.
The glass making facility was founded in 1712 as the second oldest glass blowing factory in Bohemia. The hand made blown, cut and engraved glass as well as painted and other embellished glass products are trade marks of this local industry. You can taste the local brew while watching the glass blowing artists doing their job.

 

 

CHAPEL OF ST. ELISABETH
Next to the glass factory is the old Saint Elisabeth Chapel famous for its glass bell. The bell that is 50 cm tall and weights 10 kg was cast in 1916 in the local Julius Klinger glass factory. In addition to the bell there is an altar made of Venetian mirrors and many richly coloured glass windows.

 

 

DEVIL´S MOUNTAIN (ČERTOVA HORA)
The top is 1022 m above the sea level. You can get there by 2 quad lifts, The Northern slope is covered with downhill ski runs of varying difficulties ranging from the beginners to expert levels.

 

SKI JUMPING TOWERS
The largest mammoth ski jumping tower is one of the sixth biggest in the World. It's critical point is at185m and the current record is held since 9.3.2002 by Matti Hautamaeki at 214,5 m.

 

MUMLAVA WATER FALLS
The falls on Jizera river are 10 m high. In the falls vicinity you can also find deep circular holes (called devil's eyes) created over centuries by water currents.

 



HARRACHOV SURROUNDINGS

 

SNĚŽKA
Is the highest mountain of the Krkonose Mountains and the Czech Republic, reaching 1602 m. It is one of the most popular trip destinations. The rocky mountain top spreads over 30 acres and is crossed by the Czech - Polish border. The name Sněžka comes from 19th century, and loosely translated means snow covered mountain.

 

 

SNĚŽNÉ JÁMY (SNOW GORGE)
This natural reservation extends to the Polish side of the mountain range and is covered with small lakes of the glacier origin. Not far from there lies the highest peak of the western Krkonose Mountains called 'Vysoke kolo' (1506 m).

 

 

LABE SPRING
The origin of Labe river is found at the elevation of 1386m. The spring is surrounded by a concrete basin out of which runs a small water stream through a stone valley. Not far from there you find tourist benches and a wall covered with colored symbols of all major towns and cities through which Labe flows on its way to the Northern Sea.

 



ENTERTAINMENT AND ATTRACTIONS

 

JEŠTĚD
Ještěd is a mountain range with the 1012 m high peak crowned by a spectacular silhouette of a mountain hotel. It is a center of tourism since ancient times, after all it is a place where the first tourist hut was built in 1844 by our ancestors. Ještěd is not only a symbol of a nearby town Liberec, but also offers a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains.

 

 

BABYLON - LIBEREC

 The major tourist attraction of the Liberec town is a big water entertainment park. It is a conglomerate of water pools, water falls, water cascades and water slides. Another tourist attraction is a nearby entertainment park and shopping center with more than sixty stores.

 

 

BOTANICAL GARDEN - LIBEREC
The Liberec Botanical Garden was first opened in 1876. You will find here an orchid exposition. The orchids bloom through out of the year. Also featured are meat devouring plants and the oldest European collection of camellias as well as the oldest bonsai tree in Europe. Altogether you can find here about 7500 different kinds of plants.

 

 

ZOO - Liberec
The Liberec Zoo was founded in 1904 and was systematically expanded to this day. It spreads over 15 hectares and here visitors can find over 170 different kinds of animals and birds. The famous is the exposition of birds of prey, Rothschld's giraffes, snow leopards, makkaos, lions, penguins and not to forget the white tigers.

 

ADRŠPACH ROCKS
The beginning of eighteenth century represents the start of tourist era for this Adršpach part of the country. The Teplice rocks were sheltered from the access of locals and tourists by dense forests until the large forest fire in 1824 opened up the countryside access. This natural disaster allowed the discovery of up until then hidden rock gardens.

 

BOZKOV´S DOLOMITE CAVES
The Bozkov´s caves are the only dolomite caves opened to public in the Czech Republic. They have walls and ceilings uniquely covered with ramps and overhangs of bristling silica as well as the usual collection of stalagmites. The largest underground lake in Bohemia is also found there.
